Inflammation of the pulpdue to bacterial infection, chronic pulpitis that may lead to death of pulpal tissues, infection of the supporting structures around the teeth need either extraction of the tooth to avoid infection or cleaning of the pulp. The root canal technique involves removing pulpal tissue; cleaning and shaping the root canalsand filling the canals with a thermoplastic material.
  • Apicoectomy-When root canal therapy has not helped the patient, calcification, a cemented post, or other material blocks access to the crown of the tooth. An incision is made in the gum tissue to see the underlying bone.  A small opening is made in the bone over the tip of the root to expose the diseased area.  The diseased tissue is removed the root tip cleaned and sealed with a root end filling.  Sutures are used to hold the gum tissue in place. The major advantage is that patients can preserve their natural tooth, which is preferable to implants.
  • An endodontist may also divide a tooth in half, repair an injured root, or even remove one or more roots.
  • Intentional replantation-The tooth is extracted, treated with an endodontic procedure while it is out of the mouth, and then replaced in its socket.

Symptoms: The symptoms indicating endodontic treatment are
