Bronchial Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs. It is a long term disease. Due to inflammation, the airways of the lungs produce excess mucus which makes it hard to breathe, and it results in short breath, coughing, and wheezing.
The word Asthma has been taken from the Greek word “ἅσθμα” that means panting. The symptoms of Asthma become worse at night or by doing regular exercise depending on the person. It can affect any age or gender depending upon environmental and hereditary factors. It is a chronic disease and interferes a lot with daily work. If ignored, the disease is proved to be fatal claiming lives in many cases.
In Ayurveda bronchial Asthama is known as “Tamaka Swasa”. As per Ayurveda, Asthama is caused due to disturbance in the digestive fire, formation of toxic that cause disturbance in the respiratory passage, and vitiation of Vata and Kapha. The aggravated Vata then enters into the respiratory passage and dislodges the Kapha that leads to vata to constrict the airways.
