    Overview

    Detail of Cancer Rehab

Cancer is a fatal disease which involves abnormal growth of cell usually derived from a single abnormal cell with the potential to invade or to spread in the other parts of the body. The cells of the body loss normal control mechanism and thus able to multiply continuously, invade nearby tissues, promote the growth of new blood vessels from which the cells derive the nutrients, and migrate to a distant part of the body. The cell of cancer can develop from any tissue within the body.

As the cancer cell grows, they form a mass of cancerous tissue called a tumor which invades the normal adjacent tissues and destroys them. The cancer cell from the initial site can spread throughout the body.

The tumor cells show the six hallmarks of cancer. These properties are required to produce a malignant tumor. It includes:

    • Growth of cell and division absent the proper signals
    • Even continuous growth and division give contrary signals
    • Abstinence of programmed cell death

    Science

The majority of cancers are caused due to genetic mutations from environmental factors, factors related to lifestyle, and some of the cancers are caused due to inherited genetics. Environmental factors are referred to as any cause which is not inherited genetically such as economic, lifestyle, and behavioral factors and not merely pollution. Tobacco, diet and obesity, infections, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, lack of physical activity, and pollution are the common environmental factors that contribute to the increasing of cancer. Psychological stress doesn’t seem to be a risk factor for the onset of cancer; however, it may worsen outcomes for those who already have cancer.

Exposure to particular chemical substances such as tobacco smoke causes cancer. Some substances cause cancer due to their physical characteristics, not due to chemical characteristics. Exposure to Asbestos which is a naturally occurring mineral fiber is a major cause of cancer of the serous membrane surrounding the lungs. Other substances in this category are wollastonite, attapulgite, glass wool, and rock wool which have similar effects.

Some hormones of our body also play a major role in the development of cancer cells in the body by promoting cell proliferation. Hormones are said to be important agents in sex-related cancers such as cancer of the breast, prostate, ovary, endometrium, testis, and also thyroid cancer, and bone cancer.

There is no sign and symptoms of cancer in the initial stage. The sign and symptoms appear when the mass grows or ulcerates. Local symptoms of cancer are:
    • Mass of the tumor or its ulceration
    • Cough or pneumonia
    • Coughing up of blood
    • Blood in Urine
    • Blood mixed through bowel motions
    • Change in bowel habits lasts for more than 06 weeks
    • Unexplained weight loss
    • Lump anywhere on the body
    • Itching, bleeding, or change in the shape of the color of skin
    • Sore which doesn’t heal
    • Pain while urinating
    • Heartburn or indigestion
    • Fatigue which never lasts
    • Neurological problems such as headaches, seizures, vision changes, and hearing impairment, etc
    • Swelling in neck, underarm, stomach, and groin

Then, the treatment course starts followed by Therapies like Abhyangam, Shirodhara, and Vaman, etc depending on the conditions of the patient along with herbal medications wholesome and well-balanced cuisines, Yoga & meditation session, fitness session to revitalize the body and bring harmony to mind and soul.

In Ayurveda, the diagnosis procedures are two-pronged. One aims to establish the state and type of pathology and the second decides the mode of treatment.  It is done through a holistic assessment of health. The Vaidya will look at the whole picture of the patient's health and try to achieve a full understanding. They observe, palpate, and interrogate with the patients. The Vaidya determines the doshas or body constitution, the health of Dhatus (tissues), the strength of digestive fire, immunity, and as well as mental harmony. This involves asking extensive questions on the topic like lifestyle, diet, personal and professional life, medical history, and any current problems. While knowing the constitution of the body, it will provide insight into which of the doshas are most likely to be in excess and which therapies and treatment plan will best suit the patient.

Risk factors are factors that do not seem to be a direct cause of many diseases but seem to be associated in any way. A risk factor for cancer makes the chance of getting a condition higher to suffer from it but does not always lead to cancer. The risk factors depend on a combination of risk factors such as genes and lifestyle, family history, age, etc. Some common risk factors are:

What is the ayurvedic viewpoint of structure and function of body?

The universe and the human body are made up of five basic elements collectively known as Panch Mahabhootas.  These five elements are Aakash (Ether/Sky), Vayu (Air), Agni (Fire), Aapa (Water) & Prithvi (Earth). The sixth mandatory component of life is Atma (Life spirit) without which life winds up. The human body is made up of Doshas (Bio humor), Dhatus (Body matrix), and malas (excretable product).

Vata, Pitta, and Kapha called Tridoshas are physiological entities of the body that are responsible to carry out all the functions of the body. Dhatus are the structural entities of the body. Rasa (Plasma), Rakta (Blood cells), Mamsa (Muscular tissue), Meda (fatty tissue), Majja (Bone marrow), Asthi (Bone tissue) and Shukra (Hormonal & other secretions) are the Dhatus.  The unwanted or waste products of the body which are excretable produced in the body as by-products of metabolism. These products are known as malas which include sweda (sweat), pureesh (faeces), & mutra (urine). All the biotransformation within the body occurs through body channels (Srotases) which are the sites for the action of Agni.

What is the approach of life style according to Ayurveda?

According to Ayurveda, Lifestyle is divided into three parts. These are:

One should also follow specific diet programmes after treatments for perfect health &, long disease free body status.

What is the definition of health according to Ayurveda?

Ayurveda has a very holistic concept of health. A disease-free body alone does not mean health. According to Ayurveda, those whose doshas are in balance, appetite is good, tissues of the body and natural urges are functioning properly, and whose mind, body, and spirit are full of bliss is a healthy person.

Ayurveda follows therapeutic measures either to prevent the disease or cure them. Ayurvedic procedures are done either to detoxify the body or as a prelude to strengthen the immune system.

Why one should go for Ayurveda treatment?

The history of Ayurveda is 5000 years old.  At present, globally this medicinal system has been adopted. Ayurveda and its treatment techniques have been proven very effective in many clinical studies. Ayurveda does not aim only to treat the sick person but also focuses to prevent illness in healthy people. Modern medicine tries to treat and remove the condition rather than treating the patient suffering from it.  Ayurveda makes a special contribution by addressing the uniqueness of each patient and helping the body to heal itself.

Why are most ayurvedic treatments time consuming?

Toxins that accumulate in the human body take a long time to manifest, as, in some diseases, the human body and mind get somewhat habituated to them. Removal of these at one go is practically impossible as it would also go against the wisdom of the body according to which the immune system works.

This is why ayurvedic treatments are time-consuming.

Does Ayurvedic medicines have any side effects?

Ayurvedic medicines are made from natural ingredients such as herbs and minerals under the supervision of expert Vaidyas. If it is taken according to the instructions of Vaidya, these medicines are safe and don’t have side effects. However, just taking the medicines is not enough as one needs to follow a proper diet and lifestyle to control the condition and works towards healing.

If not followed properly, then it may develop some problems and you can think it as side effects of medicines but in reality, it is caused due to fault in diet and lifestyle.
